Colgate-Palmolive Company was awarded several patents last month; here are a select few:

US Patent No. 9,504,857 B2 covers an oral care composition for malodor control. The composition is comprised of an orally acceptable carrier and a multilayer film that is entrained in the orally acceptable carrier and contains at least one mucoadhesive layer and one overlying layer. The mucoadhesive is comprised of a mucoadhesive polymer, a polymeric base, and an odor controlling active. The overlying layer is comprised of a release modulating polymer, a polymeric base, and an optional flavorant. The odor controlling active is a zinc-containing compound selected from the group consisting of zinc oxide; zinc citrate; zinc lactate; zinc chlorite; zinc chloride; zinc zeolite; and a combination of two or more thereof.

In 9,504,858 B2, Colgate-Palmolive Company was granted a patent for a composition comprising a zinc (amino acid or trialkyl glycine) halide complex and cysteine in free or in orally or cosmetically acceptable salt form.

Colgate also patented a dentifrice with zinc and polyphosphate ions (US Patent No. 9,504,634 B2). The composition contains a zinc ion source; a polyphosphate ion source; anethole; silica; a stannous ion agent and a fluoride ion source.

US Patent No. 9,504,635 B2 covers a cleansing composition created by Colgate that is comprised of a partially neutralized 4-oxovaleric acid; leuconostoc/radish root ferment filtrate derived from radishes fermented with Leuconostoc kimchii, a lactic acid bacteria; at least one surfactant; and water. The combination of the partially neutralized 4-oxovaleric acid and leuconostoc/radish root ferment filtrate provides preservative protection against gram positive bacteria, gram negative bacteria, mold, yeast and fungus, according to the patent literature.

In US Patent No. 9,498,410 B2, Colgate has patented a dentifrice comprising an acceptable carrier with film fragments. The film fragments are comprised a matrix (containing a water soluble material which comprises hydroxypropylmethylcellulose) and a functional material. The film fragments are comprised of a controlled release composition that contains functional material and a film that has dissolution value of at least five seconds and not more than 200 seconds.

In another oral care related patent (US Patent No. 9,498,425 B2), Colgate has patented a dentifrice composition that contains a whitening complex that is comprised of crosslinked polyvinylpyrrolidone complexed with hydrogen peroxide; an ethylene oxide, propylene oxide block co-polymer; polyethylene glycol; glycerin; propylene glycol; sodium lauryl sulfate; and sodium monofluorophosphate. The total amount of hydrogen peroxide by weight of the composition is 0.5-3%, and the composition comprises less than 3% water by weight.
